Dr. Abhijit Deshmukh is a radiation oncologist who has been caring for area cancer patients for the past 12 years.

Dr. Deshmukh received his medical degree from Cornell University and completed his residency in radiation oncology at Stanford University's School of Medicine. He is board certified in radiation oncology and is a member of the Duval County Medical Society, Florida Medical Association and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology. Dr. Deshmukh participated in several research projects at Harvard University and Cornell University. He grew up in the Jacksonville area and was valedictorian of his senior class at The Bolles School.

Dr. Deshmukh helped open the Florida Radiation Oncology Group office at Baptist Beaches, bringing state-of-the-art radiation oncology services to the Beaches community. He cares for patients with many types of cancer and has a special interest in lymphomas, breast cancer, head and neck cancers and Gamma Knife therapy for brain neoplasms.

"I decided to go into radiation oncology because I thought it would be rewarding to work with patients facing a life-altering diagnosis such as cancer," explained Dr. Deshmukh. "The specialty also relies on advanced technology and physics, which are two of my areas of interest. However, it's getting to know the patients and their families and helping them during a difficult time that is most rewarding to me."

When Dr. Deshmukh isn't busy caring for patients he gives lectures around the community about different types of cancers and their treatments. In his spare time, he enjoys running and attending cultural events.
